Our Mission
Dementia Matters is a podcast about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). Hosted by Dr. Nathaniel Chin, the show features interviews from scientists, clinicians, caregiving experts and more to share the latest in Alzheimer’s disease news, research and caregiver resources.
Our History
The Dementia Matters podcast was started in 2017 by Dr. Chin and the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center‘s communications team, emerging in response to the gap in science-backed information on aging, brain health, and Alzheimer’s disease and the increase in misinformation and stigma surrounding dementia.
The show began on October 3, 2017 and released four episodes to introduce our host and share insights related to brain health and exercise, in-home caregiving, and gender differences. Since 2017, Dementia Matters has produced over 200 episodes breaking down research developments, clinical trials, caregiving strategies and more to help individuals navigate this challenging disease and improve their brain health.
Our Future
Going forward, Dementia Matters wants to grow as we continue sharing evidence-based scientific information about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias with our listeners. Our current goals include:
- Ensuring accurate transcripts are available for all episodes in our archive
- Develop and organize our episode library (as well as other materials) on a new Dementia Matters website
- Experiment with video episodes and other episode formats outside of traditional interviews to expand our ability to communicate the latest research and care strategies
- Share information about dementia through different formats outside of audio podcasts, including through articles, social media posts and more
